I often pondered about the phrase ‘success is not a popularity contest’.
I think that is very misleading. Sure, it’s not productive to overly obsess about what others think of us. But it is important to do all that you can do to build positive, productive relationships. Because there is this universal hidden language; and that is called ‘trust’. It creates a field of power. When we distrust, we activate our ‘fear-network’. Fear locks all doors to the parts that we need to think and feel empathy. When we feel safe, the brain opens up. Only then we are able to listen and connect, to prime conversations for mutual success. All of our employees are people. All of our customers are people. If we don’t understand people, how can we understand business?
